I have always dreamed of starting my own bed and breakfast. But the final push came in 2005 when we experienced horrible service while staying at a guesthouse in Ermelo. We were freezing cold and the staff just didn't care and the air-conditioner was blowing hot and cold air at the same time. The next morning breakfast was already laid out when they got to the dining room. The plates were cold, the bacon hardened and there was a black cat sitting next to the toast.
That was when we decided to buy a house and make it a guesthouse that would be a welcoming home from home with warmth and ambience. We bought a house in Ermelo where we started our first Guest house.
Two years later we opened a guest house in Glen Austin Midrand. We now boast 21 rooms including Shango La Hashu cultural village of 7 Ethnic groups and two conference halls. We were graded 4 Star from our first year of existence. We cater for both corporate and tourists. Local and international's invited to join the Tsogo Sun enterprise development programme that our business really took off. Sun Cares is Tsogo Sun's CSI umbrella, under which the Book-a Guesthouse programme was started as a pilot project in Soweto seven years ago. The initial intention of the programme was to develop, mentor and coach accommodation establishments that displayed potential to be sustainable enterprises. Now in our third year of the programme, the Book-a-Guesthouse programme had kept us "smiling and shining".
